As any farmer will tell you, growing great fruit starts with great soil. At Laguna Gold, they are fortunate to have Gold Ridge soils which consist of a layer of rich top soil over many feet of gold colored compacted silt. They use a no-till approach to farming and work continuously to improve soil fertility by adding composed manure. And to separate subterranean friends from the roots they use wire baskets (stainless steel), keeping the trees healthy and happy.
Eating a fresh ripe peach is one of the best summer times treats there is. Unfortunately, many people are disappointed with grocery store peaches. But don’t blame the peach, they are picked ”green”, well before being fully ripe. Growers do this so that the fruit can survive the long trip from the orchard to your kitchen. Since peaches don’t ripen after they are picked (although they do soften), the result is a less-than-perfect peach.
At Laguna Gold they make sure that you can always find a perfectly ripe peach by having 16 varieties (both white and yellow) that ripen continuously from mid-June through late August. Whether you eat them in the car or at home in a cobbler, a crumble, smoothie, or everybody’s favorite fresh peach ice cream, you are sure to taste the difference. All of their peaches are freestone and all are delicious.
